IFTA Flight Standards
IFTA's Flight Standards Department is responsible for the training and standardization of instructors. Training is separated into three main areas: initial, upgrade and proficiency.
Initial training consists of 18 lessons, including 40 hours of ground instruction and 22 hours of flight training in the A36 Bonanza.
Upgrade training into the Baron 58 is separated into two phases. The VFR phase consists of 24 hours of ground school, 4 hours of FTD operation training, 3 hours FTD flight training and 9 hours of flight training in the aircraft. The IFR phase consists of a minimum of 16 hours of ground school, 3 hours in the FTD and 9 hours of Baron flight training.
Proficiency training consists of bi-monthly proficiency flights, including a mid-period review and an annual checkride every year.
Flight Standards also ensures that the IFTA training manuals and other flight training materials are kept up-to-date.
Quarterly safety meetings are one element of IFTA's pro-active approach to safety.
